Arts Week at the Capitol

Ballet Mississippi, a long-time supporter of the arts in the state of Mississippi, was invited to the steps of the Mississippi State Capitol Rotunda on Tuesday, February 6th to launch Arts Week at the Capitol. Artistic Director David Keary was accompanied by a few Ballet Mississippi students, including Campbell Hardy, Gracie Watson, Morgan Lee, and Harper Scott. During the event, they ran into another Ballet Mississippi student, Clara Barton Calcote, who was working as a legislative page. The day provided artists and arts organizations, such as Ballet Mississippi, with the opportunity to share with lawmakers how the arts have impacted their lives and communities.

World Ballet Day at WLBT

Who knew that February 7th was World Ballet Day? Wednesday of this week, Ballet Mississippi's Artistic Director, David Keary, and some of our ballet students - Annalise James, Josie Vickery, and Mary Mac Penton - were invited to WLBT to talk about their love for the art of ballet and the hard work that goes into their ballet training. Lillian Rolfe, our costume director, was also present to take care of the girls' colorful wardrobe. During the interview, David spoke briefly with TV Host, Angela Evans about an upcoming Spring Performance at Thalia Mara on April 6th, which will feature our intermediate and advanced students along with guest artist, Alexei Orohovsky, who won the gold medal in this summer's 2023 International Ballet competition in Jackson. The Ballet Mississippi production will feature "Paquita Grand Pas Classique" - a Spanish-flavored classical piece with an array of solo variations. Look for more information soon about this exciting performance!
